RESUMO

Nitrogen doping has been recognized as an important strategy to enhance the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) activity of carbon-encapsulated transition metal catalysts (TM@C). However, previous reports on nitrogen doping have tended to result in a random distribution of nitrogen atoms, which leads to disordered electrostatic potential differences on the surface of carbon layers, limiting further control over the materials' electronic structure. Herein, a gradient nitrogen doping strategy to prepare nitrogen-deficient graphene and nitrogen-rich carbon nanotubes encapsulated cobalt nanoparticles catalysts (Co@CNTs@NG) is proposed. The unique gradient nitrogen doping leads to a gradual increase in the electrostatic potential of the carbon layer from the nitrogen-rich region to the nitrogen-deficient region, facilitating the directed electron transfer within these layers and ultimately optimizing the charge distribution of the material. Therefore, this strategy effectively regulates the density of state and work function of the material, further optimizing the adsorption of oxygen-containing intermediates and enhancing ORR activity. Theoretical and experimental results show that under controlled gradient nitrogen doping, Co@CNTs@NG exhibits significantly ORR performance (Eonset = 0.96 V, E1/2 = 0.86 V). At the same time, Co@CNTs@NG also displays excellent performance as a cathode material for Zn-air batteries, with peak power density of 132.65 mA cm-2 and open-circuit voltage (OCV) of 1.51 V. This work provides an effective gradient nitrogen doping strategy to optimize the ORR performance.

RESUMO

Brain metastasis (BM) is one of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths in patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). However, limited treatments are available due to the presence of the blood-brain barrier (BBB). Upregulation of lysophosphatidylcholine acyltransferase 1 (LPCAT1) in NSCLC has been found to promote BM. Conversely, downregulating LPCAT1 significantly suppresses the proliferation and metastasis of lung cancer cells. In this study, we firstly confirmed significant upregulation of LPCAT1 in BM sites compared to primary lung cancer by analyzing scRNA dataset. We then designed a delivery system based on a single-chain variable fragment (scFv) targeting the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) and exosomes derived from HEK293T cells to enhance cell-targeting capabilities and increase permeability. Next, we loaded LPCAT1 siRNA (siLPCAT1) into these engineered exosomes (exoscFv). This novel scFv-mounted exosome successfully crossed the BBB in an animal model and delivered siLPCAT1 to the BM site. Silencing LPCAT1 efficiently arrested tumor growth and inhibited malignant progression of BM in vivo without detectable toxicity. Overall, we provided a potential platform based on exosomes for RNA interference (RNAi) therapy in lung cancer BM.

RESUMO

Conventional conductive materials such as metals are crucial functional components of conductive systems in diverse electronic instruments. However, their severe intrinsic impedance mismatch with air dielectric causes strong reflection of incident electromagnetic waves, and the resulting low electromagnetic transmissivity typically interferes with surrounding electromagnetic signal communications in modern multifunction-integrated instruments. Herein, graphene glass fiber fabric (GGFF) that merges intrinsic electrical and electromagnetic properties of graphene with dielectric attributes and highly porous macrostructure of glass fiber fabric (GFF) is innovatively developed. Using a novel decoupling chemical vapor deposition growth strategy, high-quality and layer-limited graphene is prepared on noncatalytic nonmetallic GFF in a controlled manner; this is pivotal to realizing GGFF with the desired compatibility among high conductivity, low electromagnetic reflectivity, and high electromagnetic transmissivity. At the same sheet resistance over a wide range of values (250-3000 Ω·sq-1), the GGFF exhibits significantly lower electromagnetic reflectivity (by 0.42-0.51) and higher transmissivity (by 0.27-0.62) than those of its metal-based conductive counterpart (CuGFF). The material design strategy reported herein provides a constructive solution to eliminate the incompatibility between electrical conductivity and electromagnetic transmissivity faced by conventional conductive materials, spotlighting the applicability of GGFF in electric heating scenarios in radar, antenna, and stealth systems.

RESUMO

Though the coordination environment of single metal sites has been recognized to be of great importance in promoting catalysis, the influence of simultaneous precise modulation of primary and secondary coordination spheres on catalysis remains largely unknown. Herein, a series of single Ni(II) sites with altered primary and secondary coordination spheres have been installed onto metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) with UiO-67 skeleton, affording UiO-Ni-X-Y (X = S, O; Y = H, Cl, CF3) with X and Y on the primary and secondary coordination spheres, respectively. Upon deposition with CdS nanoparticles, the resulting composites present high photocatalytic H2 production rates, in which the optimized CdS/UiO-Ni-S-CF3 exhibits an excellent activity of 13.44 mmol g-1, ∼500 folds of the pristine catalyst (29.6 µmol g-1 for CdS/UiO), in 8 h, highlighting the key role of microenvironment modulation around Ni sites. Charge kinetic analysis and theoretical calculation results demonstrate that the charge transfer dynamics and reaction energy barrier are closely correlated with their coordination spheres. This work manifests the advantages of MOFs in the fabrication of structurally precise catalysts and the elucidation of particular influences of microenvironment modulation around single metal sites on the catalytic performance.

RESUMO

Bismuth-telluride-based alloy has long been considered as the most promising candidate for low-grade waste heat power generation. However, optimizing the thermoelectric performance of n-type Bi2Te3 is more challenging than that of p-type counterparts due to its greater sensitivity to texture, and thus limits the advancement of thermoelectric modules. Herein, the thermoelectric performance of n-type Bi2Te3 is enhanced by incorporating a small amount of CuGaTe2, resulting in a peak ZT of 1.25 and a distinguished average ZT of 1.02 (300-500 K). The decomposed Cu+ strengthens interlayer interaction, while Ga+ optimizes carrier concentration within an appropriate range. Simultaneously, the emerged numerous defects, such as small-angle grain boundaries, twin boundaries, and dislocations, significantly suppresses the lattice thermal conductivity. Based on the size optimization by finite element modelling, the constructed thermoelectric module yields a high conversion efficiency of 6.9% and output power density of 0.31 W cm-2 under a temperature gradient of 200 K. Even more crucially, the efficiency and output power little loss after subjecting the module to 40 thermal cycles lasting for 6 days. This study demonstrates the efficient and reliable Bi2Te3-based thermoelectric modules for broad applications in low-grade heat harvest.

RESUMO

Thermoelectric technology, which enables a direct and pollution-free conversion of heat into electricity, provides a promising path to address the current global energy crisis. Among the broad range of thermoelectric materials, silver copper chalcogenides (AgCuQ, Q = S, Se, Te) have garnered significant attention in thermoelectric community in light of inherently ultra-low lattice thermal conductivity, controllable electronic transport properties, excellent thermoelectric performance across various temperature ranges, and a degree of ductility. This review epitomizes the recent progress in AgCuQ-based thermoelectric materials, from the optimization of thermoelectric performance to the rational design of devices, encompassing the fundamental understanding of crystal structures, electronic band structures, mechanical properties, and quasi-liquid behaviors. The correlation between chemical composition, mechanical properties, and thermoelectric performance in this material system is also highlighted. Finally, several key issues and prospects are proposed targeting further optimizing AgCuQ-based thermoelectric materials. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved.

RESUMO

This study systematically combed the randomized controlled trial(RCT) of Chinese patent medicines in treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM) in recent five years by using the method of evidence map. It understood the distribution and quality of evidence in this field and found the existing Chinese patent medicines in treatment of T2DM and the problems in its research. The study collected the commonly used Chinese patent medicines for the treatment of T2DM from three drug catalogs, retrieved Chinese and English databases to obtain RCT literature related to Chinese patent medicines in recent five years, and extracted information such as sample size, study drug, combination medication, course of treatment, and outcome indicators from the literature. It also conducted quality evaluation based on the Cochrane collaborative network bias risk assessment tool and used charts to display the analysis results. A total of 19 kinds of Chinese patent medicines are collected, of which 13 kinds of Chinese patent medicines are mentioned in 131 articles related to RCT. The literature concerning Shenqi Jiangtang Capsules/Granules, Jinlida Granules, and Xiaoke Pills accounts for a large proportion. Outcome indicators include blood glucose, blood lipids, pancreatic islet cell function, and clinical symptoms. In terms of literature quality, 75 articles have correct random methods, and 1 article performs allocation hiding and blind methods. Therefore, the clinical orientation of Chinese patent medicines for the treatment of T2DM is broad, failing to reflect their own characteristics and lacking safety information. Insufficient attention has been paid to TCM syndrome scores, quality of life, and blood lipid outcome indicators that reflect the characteristics of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM). The number of studies on the treatment of T2DM by Chinese patent medicines varies greatly among varieties, and the quality of the studies is low. It is suggested that the holders of the marketing license of T2DM Chinese patent medicines should carry out a post-marketing re-evaluation of the varieties of traditional Chinese patent medicines for treating T2DM according to the relevant requirements of the State Food and Drug Administration, standardize the clinical positioning, and revise and improve the safety information in the instructions. It is recommended that researchers construct a core indicator dataset for Chinese patent medicine treatment of T2DM, improve the efficacy evaluation system, and develop an experimental plan based on CONSORT before conducting RCT.

RESUMO

Chiral recognition of amino acids is very important in both chemical and life sciences. Although chiral recognition with luminescence has many advantages such as being inexpensive, it is usually slow and lacks generality as the recognition module relies on structural complementarity. Here, we show that one single molecular-solid sensor, L-phenylalanine derived benzamide, can manifest the structural difference between the natural, left-handed amino acid and its right-handed counterpart via the difference of room-temperature phosphorescence (RTP) irrespective of the specific chemical structure. To realize rapid and reliable sensing, the doped samples are obtained as nanocrystals from evaporation of the tetrahydrofuran solutions, which allows for efficient triplet-triplet energy transfer to the chiral analytes generated in situ from chiral amino acids. The results show that L-analytes induce strong RTP, whereas the unnatural D-analytes produce barely any afterglow. The method expands the scope of luminescence chiral sensing by lessening the requirement for specific molecular structures.

RESUMO

Background: Anlotinib is a new type of tyrosine kinase inhibitor that targets vascular endothelial growth factor receptors 1/2/3, platelet-derived growth factor receptors α/ß, and fibroblast growth factor receptors 1-4 and c-Kit, with a broad spectrum of inhibitory effects on tumor angiogenesis and growth. It has been proven effective in HER2-negative metastatic breast cancer, but its efficacy in early-stage triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is unknown. This phase 2 study aims to evaluate the efficacy and safety of adding anlotinib to neoadjuvant chemotherapy in patients with TNBC. Methods: Patients with clinical stage II/III TNBC were treated with 5 cycles of anlotinib (12 mg, d1-14, q3w) plus 6 cycles of taxanes (docetaxel 75 mg/m2 ,d1, q3w or nab-paclitaxel 125 mg/m2, d1 and d8, q3w) and lobaplatin (30 mg/m2, d1, q3w), followed by surgery. The primary endpoint was pathological complete response (pCR; ypT0/is ypN0) and the secondary endpoints include breast pCR (bpCR), axillary pCR (apCR), residual cancer burden (RCB), objective response rate (ORR), survival, and safety. Exploratory endpoints were efficacy biomarkers based on Fudan University Shanghai Cancer Center Immunohistochemical (FUSCC IHC) classification for TNBC and next-generation sequencing (NGS) of DNA from tumor tissue and blood samples of patients with 425-gene panel. This trial is registered with www.chictr.org.cn (ChiCTR2100043027). Findings: From Jan 2021 to Aug 2022, 48 patients were assessed and 45 were enrolled. All patients received at least one dose of study treatment and underwent surgery. The median age was 48.5 years (SD: 8.7), 71% were nodal involved, and 20% had stage III. In the intention-to-treat population, 26 out of 45 patients achieved pCR (57.8%; 90% CI, 44.5%-70.3%), and 39 achieved residual cancer burden class 0-I (86.7%; 95% CI, 73.2%-94.9%). The bpCR and apCR rate were 64.4% (29/45) and 71.9% (23/32), respectively. No recurrence or metastasis occurred during the short-term follow-up. Based on the FUSCC IHC-based subtypes, the pCR rates were 68.8% (11/16) for immunomodulatory subtype, 58.3% (7/12) for basal-like immune-suppressed subtype and 33.3% (4/12) for luminal androgen receptor subtype, respectively. NGS revealed that the pCR were 77% (10/13) and 50% (14/28) in MYC-amplified and wild-type patients, respectively, and 78% (7/9) and 53% (17/32) in gBRCA1/2-mutated and wild-type patients, respectively. The median follow-up time of the study was 14.9 months (95% CI: 13.5-16.3 months). There was no disease progression or death during neoadjuvant therapy. No deaths occurred during postoperative follow-up. In the safety population (N = 45), Grade 3 or 4 treatment emergent adverse events occurred in 29 patients (64%), and the most common events were neutropenia (38%), leukopenia (27%), thrombocytopenia (25%), anemia (13%), and hypertension (13%), respectively. Interpretation: The addition of anlotinib to neoadjuvant chemotherapy showed manageable toxicity and encouraging antitumor activity for patients with clinical stage II/III TNBC. RESUMO

The first paired electrolysis-enabled arylation of quinoxalin-2(1H)-ones was achieved using cyanoarenes as the arylation reagents. A variety of 3-arylquinoxalin-2(1H)-ones with various important functional groups were obtained in moderate to good yields under metal- and chemical oxidant-free conditions. With a pair of reductive and oxidative processes occurring among the substrates and reaction intermediates, the power consumption can be dramatically reduced.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Jaffe-Campanacci syndrome (JCS) is a very rare syndrome. The treatment of JCS is more conservative, and most authors recommend that no surgery should be done in asymptomatic patients. The conventional concept holds that the natural course of non-ossifying fibromas (NOFs) grows with the development of bones, and the osteolytic region gradually stops expanding and self-healing through bone ossifying around the lesion and ossification within the lesion. But in this case, the bone lesions were potentially biologically aggressive, which led to severe limb deformities and pain. CASE SUMMARY: We present the case of a 5-year-old girl with JCS presenting with not only NOF sand café-au-lait macules, but also showed features not mentioned before, severe limb pain, and at last resulted in amputation. She was admitted to our hospital after presenting with claudication and mild pain over her right thigh, which worsened when stretching or being touched. Skin examination revealed multiple café-au-lait macules on the neck, arm, axilla, and torso, including the nipples and perineum. Radiographs revealed multiple lytic lesions in the proximal part of the right humerus, distal part of the right clavicle, proximal and distal parts of the right femur, and proximal parts of the right tibia and fibula. Curettage and biopsy were performed on the distal part of the right femur. At the age of 7, the girl was re-admitted to our hospital for a pathological fracture in the middle in the right femur and underwent Intralesional excision, internal fixation, bone grafting, and spica casting. At the age of 10, the girl came to our hospital again for severe pain of the right leg. Amputation from the middle level of the right femur was performed. CONCLUSION: In our opinion, education on preventing pathological fractures and explaining the consequent serious consequences to the parents is a matter of prime significance. At the same time, prophylactic treatment (restricted exercise, support, or surgery) is also considerable for JSC.

RESUMO

A global diabatization scheme, based on the "valence-hole" concept, has been previously applied to model webs of avoided crossings that exist in four electronic-state symmetry manifolds of C2 (1Πg, 3Πg, 1Σu+, and 3Σu+). Here, this model is extended to the electronically excited states of four more molecules: CN (2Σ+), N2 (3Πu), SiC (3Π), and Si2 (3Πg). Many strangenesses in the spectroscopic observations (e.g., energy level structure, predissociation linewidths, and radiative lifetimes) for all four electronic state systems discussed here are accounted for by this unified model. The key concept of the model is valence-hole electron configurations: 3σ24σ11π45σ2 in CN (2Σ+), 2σg22σu11πu43σg21πg1 in N2 (3Πu), 5σ26σ17σ22π3 in SiC (3Π), and 4σg24σu15σg22πu3 in Si2 (3Πg), all of which have a triply occupied "valence-core" (i.e., 2σg22σu1 or the equivalent). These valence-hole configurations have a nominal bond order of three or higher and correlate with high-energy separated-atom limits with an np ← ns (n = 2, 3) promotion in one of the atomic constituents. On its way to dissociation, the strongly bound diabatic valence-hole state crosses multiple weakly bound or repulsive states, which belong to electron configurations with a completely filled valence-core. These curve crossings between diabatic potentials result in a network of many avoided crossings among multiple electronic states, analogous to the well-studied electronic structure landscape of ionic-covalent crossings in strongly ionic molecules. Considering the unique role of valence-hole states in shaping the global electronic structure, the valence-hole concept should be added to our intuitive framework of chemical bonding.

RESUMO

Breast cancer is a common malignancy with the highest mortality rate among women worldwide. Its incidence is on the rise year after year, accounting for more than one-tenth of new cancers worldwide. Increasing evidence suggests that forkhead box (FOX) transcription factors play an important role in the occurrence and development of breast cancer. However, little is known about the relationship between the expression, prognostic value, function, and immune infiltration of FOX transcription factors in tumor microenvironment. We used bioinformatics to investigate expression and function of FOX factor in breast cancer. Our results revealed the expression levels of FOXA1 and FOXM1 were significantly higher in breast cancer tissues than in normal tissues. The high expression of mRNA in FOXA1 (P < .05), FOXM1 (P < .01), and FOXP1 (P < .05) groups was related to tumor stage. Survival analysis results showed that increased FOXP1 mRNA levels were significantly associated with overall survival (OS), recurrence-free survival (RFS), and distant metastasis-free survival (DMFS) in all patients with breast cancer (P < .05). Patients with the FOXA1 high-expression group had better RFS and DMFS than the low-expression group (P < .05), while patients with FOXM1 high-expression group had worse RFS, OS, and DMFS than the low-expression group (P < .05). Meanwhile, mutation analysis showed that genetic alterations in FOX transcription factors were significantly associated with shorter OS and progression-free survival (P < .05), but not with disease-free survival (P = .710) in patients with breast cancer. FOXP1, FOXA1, and FOXM1 may be used as potential biomarkers to predict the prognosis of patients with breast cancer. Functional enrichment indicated that FOX was mainly involved in cell division, cell senescence, cell cycle, and prolactin signaling pathway. In patients with breast cancer, FOXC2 expression was negatively correlated with the infiltration of B cells and positively correlated with the infiltration of neutrophils and dendritic cells. However, FOXM1 was negatively correlated with the infiltration of CD8 + T cells and macrophages and positively correlated with the infiltration of neutrophils and dendritic cells. These findings provided novel insights into the screening of prognostic biomarkers of the FOX family in breast cancer and laid a foundation for further research on the immune infiltration of the FOX transcription factor family members in tumors.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Serum lactate dehydrogenase to albumin ratio (LAR) is associated with poor outcomes in malignancy and pneumonia. However, there are few studies suggesting that LAR is associated with the occurrence of acute kidney injury (AKI) in patients with sepsis, which was investigated in this study. METHODS: We conducted a retrospective cohort study based on the Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care (MIMIC)-IV database. The primary outcome was the occurrence of AKI within 2 days and 7 days. Multivariable logistic regression models were used to calculate odds ratios to validate the association between LAR and AKI, in-hospital mortality, RRT use, and recovery of renal function, respectively. RESULTS: A total of 4010 participants were included in this study. The median age of the participants was 63.5 years and the median LAR was 10.5. After adjusting for confounding variables, patients in the highest LAR quartile had a higher risk of AKI than those in the lowest LAR quartile within 2 days and 7 days, with odds ratios of 1.37 (95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.23-1.52) and 1.95 (95% CI: 1.72-2.22), respectively. The adjusted odds of AKI within 2 and 7 days were 1.16 (95% CI: 1.12-1.20) and 1.29 (95% CI: 1.24-1.35) for each 1 unit increase in LAR(log2), respectively. CONCLUSION: This study demonstrated that elevated LAR was associated with poor prognosis in patients with sepsis. The risk of AKI and in-hospital mortality increased, the need for RRT increased, and the chance of recovery of renal function decreased with the increase of LAR.

RESUMO

The number of artificial total hip revision arthroplasties is increasing yearly in China, and >50% of these cases have acetabular defects. Accurately locating and quantifying the bone defect is one of the current challenges of this surgery. Thus, the objective of the present study was to simulate acetabular implantation with the aid of Mimics 17.0 software (Materialise NV) in patients with loosened acetabular prosthesis, to evaluate the 'ideal acetabular center' and the 'actual acetabular center' to guide the choice of prosthesis and surgical method. From January 2017 to June 2021, the present study included 10 hips from 10 patients [seven men (seven hips) and three women (three hips)]. In all patients, the Mimics software was applied to simulate the dislocation of the femoral prosthesis and acetabular prosthesis implantation before surgery; calculate the height difference between the 'ideal acetabular center' and the 'actual acetabular center' to assess the bone defect; confirm the size of the acetabular prosthesis, abduction angle, anteversion angle and bone coverage of the acetabular cup; and measure the intraoperative bleeding and postoperative follow-up Harris score of the hip joint. After statistical analysis, the present study revealed that digital simulation assistance could improve the accuracy of hip revision acetabular prosthesis implantation, reduce postoperative shortening of the affected limb, especially for surgeons with relatively little experience in hip revision surgery, and greatly reduce the occurrence of complications such as hip dislocation because of poor postoperative prosthesis position.

RESUMO

Background: It is well known that parents play an important role in the family, particularly the mental health literacy of parents is essential for the growth and development of children. As the parents of children with special needs, they are facing more difficulties and psychological pressure, resulted in more mental health problems. Purpose: The current study examined the effect of social support on mental health literacy, and its underlying mechanisms regarding the mediating role of coping styles and moderating role of social comparison. Methods: Using a cross-sectional design, 165 parents of children with special needs (22-67 years old, M=37.72, SD=8.78) participated in the study. The general information questionnaire, Mental Health Literacy Scale (MHLS), Social Support Rating Scale, Simplified Coping Style Questionnaire, and Social Comparison Orientation Scale were used. Results: We found that objective support positively predicted the mental health literacy, positive coping style played a mediating role between objective support and mental health literacy. In addition, the relationship between objective support and positive coping styles was moderated by social comparisons; for lower levels of opinion social comparison, the effect of objective support on positive coping styles was significantly stronger. Conclusion: We revealed the underlying mechanisms between social support and mental health literacy. The present study has profound implications for mental health literacy services for parents who have children with special needs.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Quantitative flow ratio derived from computed tomography angiography (CT-QFR) and invasive coronary angiography (Murray law-based quantitative flow ratio [µQFR]) are novel approaches enabling rapid computation of fractional flow reserve without the use of pressure guidewires and vasodilators. However, the feasibility and diagnostic performance of both CT-QFR and µQFR in evaluating complex coronary lesions remain unclear. METHODS: Between September 2014 and September 2021, 240 patients with 30% to 90% coronary diameter stenosis who underwent both coronary computed tomography angiography and invasive coronary angiography with fractional flow reserve within 60 days were retrospectively enrolled. The diagnostic performance of CT-QFR and µQFR in detecting functional ischemia among all lesions, especially complex coronary lesions, was analyzed using fractional flow reserve as the reference standard. RESULTS: CT-QFR and µQFR analyses were performed on 309 and 289 vessels, respectively. The diagnostic sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value, and accuracy for CT-QFR in all lesions at the per-vessel level were 91% (with a 95% CI of 84%-96%), 92% (95% CI, 88%-95%), 83% (95% CI, 75%-90%), 96% (95% CI, 93%-98%), and 92% (95% CI, 88%-95%), with values for µQFR of 90% (95% CI, 81%-95%), 97% (95% CI, 93%-99%), 92% (95% CI, 84%-97%), 96% (95% CI, 92%-98%), and 94% (95% CI, 91%-97%), respectively. Among bifurcation, tandem, and moderate-to-severe calcified lesions, the diagnostic values of CT-QFR and µQFR showed great correlation and agreement with those of invasive fractional flow reserve, achieving an area under the receiver operating characteristic curve exceeding 0.9 for each complex lesion at the vessel level. Furthermore, the accuracies of CT-QFR and µQFR in the gray zone were 85% and 84%, respectively. CONCLUSIONS: Angiography-derived quantitative flow ratio (CT-QFR and µQFR) demonstrated remarkable diagnostic performance in complex coronary lesions, indicating its pivotal role in the management of patients with coronary artery disease.
